What notifications can I get when I submit a test or quiz?

Below are screen shots with examples of the email notifications you can receive from Tests & Quizzes.  The notifications correspond to the ways in which an assessment can be submitted:

  1. Manual submission: You select Submit for Grading on the Assessment Submission Warning screen to confirm submitting an assessment.
  2. Timer submission: The timer expires on a timed assessment and automatically submits the assessment for you.
  3. Automatic submission: You can get an automatic submission if your instructor has enabled the Autosubmit feature for the assessment. You save content in the assessment, and exit the assessment before it is due.  The saved assessment is automatically submitted at the latest submission date provided no other attempt has been submitted.

Content of all notifications

All Tests & Quizzes email notifications contain the following:

  • The title of the site where the assessment was taken,
  • The title of the assessment,
  • Your name and UVA ID or non-UVA email address,
  • A submission ID for the assessment,
  • The date the assessment was submitted (manual or timer submission), or the date you last saved work in the assessment (automatic submission),
  • A confirmation number for the submission (this confirmation number also displays on the submission confirmation screen after you submit an assessment),
  • The assessment due date (if the instructor or site administrator selected one),
  • The site ID (this is the ID that appears in the link to the UVACollab site where the assessment was taken).

Manual submission

A manual submission occurs when you select Submit for Grading on the Assessment Submission Warning screen to confirm submitting an assessment.

The subject of the email for a manually submitted assessment: Notification for assessment submission: [the title of the site where the assessment was taken] - [the assessment title]

The first line of the email notification includes: The following assessment submission was recorded

Timer submission

A timer submission occurs when a timer expires on a timed assessment.  The timer automatically submits the assessment for you.

The subject of the email for a timed assessment submission: Notification for timed assessment submission: [the title of the site where the assessment was taken] - [the assessment title]

The first line of the email notification includes: The timer has expired and the following timed assessment has been automatically submitted

Automatic submission

You can get an automatic submission if your instructor has enabled the Autosubmit feature for the assessment. You save work in the assessment, but do not submit it before the latest submission date, so the assessment remains In Progress.  The work you saved prior to the latest submission date is automatically submitted at that date if no other attempt has been submitted.

In the event of an automatic submission, the timestamp on the email is when the actual submission occurred, while the Last Saved Date in the email is the last time you saved work in the assessment.
