How do I override a course grade in Gradebook?

Instructors can manually override the final course grade calculated by Gradebook. A grade override can be used to adjust a student's grade or enter a grade of IN (incomplete) for a student.

Tip: You may import grade overrides from a spreadsheet by following the steps in How do I import final letter grades into Gradebook?

Go to Gradebook.

Select Gradebook from the tool menu in your site.

Select Course Grade Override.

In the student's Course Grade cell, open the menu by selecting the down arrow icon and choose Course Grade Override.

Select the grade.

From the Override drop-down menu, select the new grade to replace the auto-calculated grade.

For example, you may select IN to give a student an incomplete.

Note: When entering a course grade, you will only be able to select the appropriate grade type for the student.  For example, if the student is registered for the class as GRD, only letter grades (e.g., A+, A, A-) will be available.  If the student is enrolled as CNC (Credit/No Credit), you will only have CR or NC to enter. See Default Grading Basis Thresholds (opens new window) for more information.

Select Save Course Grade Override(s).

View override grade.

A message indicating that the student's course grade has been updated will appear at the top of the Grades page in Gradebook.

The student's course grade will be shown in bold font to indicate a manual override.
