How do I copy a Resources file or folder from one site to another site?

The method of copying files and folders described here allows you to copy specific files and folders from one site to another site where you have permission to upload resources, or to My Resources in your Home site.

To quickly and easily copy ALL the files and folders from one course or collaboration site to another site, use the Import from Site option described in How do I import content from one site to another?

Video Guide

Step-by-Step Instructions

Select the site that will be the destination for the content you are about to copy.

Go to Resources.

Select the Resources tool from the tool menu of your site.

Select Copy Content from My Other Sites.

At the bottom of the list of resources in your site, select Copy Content from My Other Sites to display the Resources and File Drop folders to which you have access in other sites.

Notes:

  • If you are a member of many sites and have a lot of resources, the other Resources and File Drop folders may take some time to load.
  • The My Resources folder in your Home site will be the first to display in the list, with other folders displayed in alphabetical order below it.
  • By default, 50 folders are displayed at a time. To display more or less folders at a time, you can change the number of folders shown by selecting the show 50 items... dropdown menu.

Expand the Resources or File Drop folder from which you want to copy content.

Select the folder icon (Open this folder) to expand the Resources or File Drop folder that contains the file(s) or folder(s) you want to copy.

In the example pictured above, the Home folder is being selected to copy content from My Resources in Home.

Important: If you select a folder's name, it may be difficult to paste the copied content. When you select a folder icon to expand it, the current site's folders remain visible at the top of the screen.

Select checkbox(es) for the file(s) or folder(s) to copy.

Select the checkbox to the left of each file or folder to copy.

Note: You can select additional folder icons (Open this folder) if you'd like to expand other folders and select specific items within them.

Select Copy.

Scroll to the top of the list of the folders from other sites (just under Copy Content from My Other Sites). Then, select the Copy button.

Find the site's folder to copy the files into.

Look for the site's folder you wish to copy the file(s) or folder(s) into. You can quickly navigate to the original site by using the breadcrumb links at the top of the page next to All site files, e.g., 21F CIS 1160 Resources.

Select the Paste icon.

To the right of each folder in the destination site for the files, you will find a Paste icon (Paste copied items here).  Select the Paste icon to the right of the folder where you want to place the copied items.

View copied item(s).

You can access the copied file(s) or folder(s) in the destination folder.

Close the list of other sites.

To be sure you are working with materials in the destination site's Resources, select Copy Content from My Other Sites again to close the list of Resources and File Drop folders from your other sites.
