How do I edit assessment question point values?

If questions were added to an assessment individually, you can edit the point value of a question either from the assessment editing screen or from the individual question's editing screen.

If questions were randomly drawn, you will need to edit the Part of the assessment in which they appear to change the point value for each question in that part.

Go to Tests & Quizzes.

Select the Tests & Quizzes tool from the Tool Menu of your site.

Select the assessment to edit.

Select Edit from the Action drop-down menu for the assessment.

Note: Assessment editing must take place in the Working Copies tab or in the Published Copies tab before anyone accesses the assessment to take it.

Edit question point values on the assessment editing screen.

Enter new point values in the points text box(es).

Select Update Points.

At the bottom of the list of questions, select Update Points.

Edit a question's point value on the question editing screen.

Edit the Answer Point Value.

In the Answer Point Value box, enter the new point value for the question.

For a true false or multiple choice, single correct question, edit the negative marking value. (Optional)

For true false or multiple choice, single correct questions, you can deduct point(s) from students' assessment scores when they select incorrect answers.  If negative marking was enabled, you can edit the point value to deduct.

  1. Enter a new point value in the Points deducted for incorrect answer text box.
  2. Or to remove Negative Marking, select the Reset to Default Grading Logic link.

Select Save.

Either at the top or bottom of the screen, select Save.

Edit the point values of questions in a random draw part.

If your assessment questions are randomly drawn from a question pool, edit the Part of the assessment in which they appear to change their point values.

Under Scoring, edit the questions' point value.

  1. In the Scoring section of the page, enter a new point(s) value in the Correct answers are worth text box.
  2. Select Save.

At the bottom of the screen, select Save.
